Deputies: Tampa man linked to Labor Day weekend robberies

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Detectives believe a man they took into custody Tuesday is connected to a string of Labor Day weekend armed robberies.

Charles Griffin was tracked down in Hillsborough County at a RaceTrac gas station. The sheriff's office had released his photo earlier, linking him to a Labor Day ATM robbery at a Bank of America.

He was captured on surveillance video, and deputies say it was taken just before he robbed a man of his money at gunpoint – in broad daylight.

Now, the sheriff's office believes he may be connected to as many as five over the weekend, including one at a Chase on Fletcher Avenue.

The sheriff's office is looking for anyone who may have any information on the alleged spree.

Detectives are expected to speak later Wednesday on their investigation.
