Polk residents complain of spotty phone service

Posted: Updated:
BRADLEY JUNCTION -

People in two small Polk County towns just south of Mulberry say they are having significant problems with their phone service.

Residents in Pierce and Bradley Junction say they're often not sure if their landline phones are going to work or not, which can be dangerous if they need to call 911.

They say their phones can be out of commission for a few days, or even more than a week.

Some people say it doesn't help that cell phone service can be spotty as well, because they don't have a tower close by.

Verizon says residents have to make a choice. One option is going with a new, more reliable wireless service that would allow them to use their existing phones -- but they would lose the ability to have a security alarm, internet, and fax machine.

The alternative is to stick with the existing system. Verizon says it will send out a repair man within 24 hours of a customer making a complaint.

Verizon was not able to explain to us why users in Pierce and Bradley Junction claim to be without service so frequently.
