A teenage girl, injured in a collision between a water scooter and an inner-tube, has now died.
Katie Yale, 15, and Aubree Franz, 13, were riding inner-tubes at Lake Seminole Park in Pinellas County Monday when they collided with a water scooter, investigators say.
Both girls were thrown into the water. Franz suffered minor injuries, but Yale was seriously hurt. She died this morning, deputies said.
The water scooter rider, identified by deputies as Ryan Godcharles of Naples, was OK, and they say it appears to just be a tragic accident.
No charges have been filed.
At just 15 years old, Katie Yale hadn't experienced much in life, but she was clear on one thing.
"Katie was a vibrant young lady. She loved the Lord, had a close personal relationship," said Keswick Christian School Superintendent Nick Stratis.
She was a 10th grader at Keswick Christian School in St. Petersburg. She loved reading and playing sports, but her faith was always front and center.
It's what her classmates and family are now holding on to, as they mourn her tragic death together.
"Our hearts were wrenched today. There was an outpouring of love but it hit close to home here," Stratis said.
At a prayer service, friends and classmates got on their knees, and with Katie's memory in their hearts, they prayed.
"We loved Katie. We feel she is alive, she's alive in heaven," he said.
