Fayette Co. heroes honored for saving 8-year-old

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -

Local heroes are being honored for their role in saving a little girl who could have drowned.  Instead, the 8-year-old is alive and well, and on Thursday night, she was able to stand and thank the Good Samaritans who made her rescue possible.

It was so close to being a summer of heartbreak in Fayette County when the lifeless body of an 8-year old was pulled from a neighborhood pool on June 29.  John Wolka pulled the little girl, whose name is Ty'Ana, from the bottom of the pool.  His wife started CPR, and Chris Carter helped.

Battalion Chief Craig Woods was nearby with an AED.  The timing was critical.  From the call to the actual AED shock was 2 minutes and 35 seconds.  That 2 minutes and 35 seconds of team work is why Ty'Ana is alive.

The Fayette County Commission awarded the parents, paramedics and firefighters who worked as a team to coax life back into Ty'Ana, including her brother and a young neighbor who guided rescuers down the nearly hidden path to the community pool.

Doctors now believe Ty'Anna suffered an epileptic seizure in the pool.  The third grader is doing better now.
