Six Flags Over Georgia to add new Hurricane Harbor

Posted: Updated:
COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

Six Flags Over Georgia, a popular Georgia destination, announced Thursday that it will soon break ground on Hurricane Harbor -- an all-new tropically-themed water park.

Hurricane Harbor will be free with park admission and completely transform the area formerly occupied by the Southern Star Amphitheater while offering wet and wild thrills for guests of all ages.

"Our entirely new water park inside of Six Flags Over Georgia will further support our goal of delivering of a world-class destination for all ages," saidPark President Dale Kaetzel. "This multi-million dollar investment will be a 'must do' experience for anyone living in or visiting Metro Atlanta."

"This year's investment in Hurricane Harbor complements many other economic initiatives in Cobb County and is the first step of our multi-year investment plan that includes future expansion of the water park into an adjacent parcel of undeveloped land," added Kaetzel.

Hurricane Harbor is set to open in late May 2014 and will feature: an 800,000-gallon wave pool, a multi-slide tower and a "world's first" single-slide tower combining two extreme slide thrills. There will also be an interactive children's water play area.

Construction plans for Hurricane Harbor are underway and groundbreaking of the site is set to begin in September.

Admission to Hurricane Harbor will be included in any one-day admission ticket or a Six Flags Over Georgia season pass. Six Flags White Water in Marietta, Ga. and Six Flags Over Georgia will continue to offer combination passes for guests to enjoy both destinations at one low price.

Before the end of the season, Six Flags Over Georgia's annual Fright Fest® celebration will also undergo an historic expansion. In 2013 Fright Fest will have more scares than ever before with three new mazes, five new scare zones, more zombies, plus added days and extended hours. Fright Fest begins September 28 and extends through weekends in October.
