A man who tragically had 98% of his body burned as a child shares his heart-wrenching story on a popular reddit board. His candor and authenticity inspires others to share their traumas, give him advice and even donate to help him.

Chris Tomlinson is the man's name, and he suffered third-degree burns over 98% of his body when he was two years old after an accident. He is now 28 years old, with a family, and going through harsh times without a permanent home.

The reddit board that he shares his story on is full of details about his struggles: from having to deal with people staring at him and making disgusted faces, to having had more than 200 surgeries as a teen that caused him to drop out of high school. But Chris also reveals some heartwarming moments in his life: how he met his wife, how his two kids give him hugs and play with him to show others in public that he's safe, how he loves his wife's cooking and even how the he's fortunate that his lower abdomen area did not get burned. "The diaper protected there," he writes.

Chris says that his main reason for telling his story is to help people with disabilities and get a conversation going about how to treat people who look different.

Tomlinson's reddit post has gotten 12,155 unique upvotes on reddit. There are also lots of great comments from reddit users, some sharing their personal stories of loss or trauma, and others giving Chris advice on how to get back on his feet. Many reddit users have tried to offer him resources or even flat out offered him a job. Some redditors even took the opportunity to inject some humor, which Chris loved. One person advised Chris to put on a Freddy Krueger voice if mean teenagers ever make fun of him. Chris responded by saying he's done so before and scared people silent. Chris has received so many messages offering donations, that he now has a link to his PayPal in the reddit post.

And those donations will help a lot, because Chris is not going through the best of times. He's currently unemployed and homeless, living in a shelter provided by the Department of Transitional Help in Massachusetts. He was couch surfing with his family and living with a few friends before this.

Chris is very skilled with computers and has taken classes in college on programming and other computer-related skills. He writes on the reddit discussion that he would love a job with computers. But because of how he looks, many employers have said he's not "physically fit" to perform tasks the jobs require.

"Don't judge people before you hire them," Chris tells FOX 29. "They could surprise you."

On reddit, Chris says that many of his friends would come to him when they needed computer advice.

One redditor asked Chris if he ever wonders what he would look like if he were not burned as a kid.

"Yes, I do all the time." Replies Chris candidly. "In my dreams I'm not burned but I don't know what I look like, never see my whole self except for my hands which are both normal in my dreams," says Chris. Chris lost most of his fingers in his burn accident.
