Hannah Montana who?
She isn't the girl you'd take home to mom, the VMA's making it clear her Disney days are dead.
"She was definitely was trying to make a statement last night that she's no longer a Disney girl and she made that successfully," said Phoebe Kushner, music director at Hot 101.5.
There was the skimpy outfit, she got down and dirty with a foam finger, and then there's the twerking.
"I think Miley likes attention, positive or negative and she's getting a lot today," Kushner said.
Much of that attention focused on her booty, at least the way it was moving. For better or worse, Miley has helped bring twerking to the mainstream.
It's all over YouTube and believe it or not there's even a video called "Twerk for Tampa."
"You don't need a big butt to be good at twerking," said Jade Banks.
Banks is a professional dancer and instructor.
While she can twerk, she prefers not to.
"It is kind of a gross thing spreading very fast," she said.
"We do a little bit of hip movement but really the vulgarness, the popping, the jagged movement, that's where we draw the line," she said.
A line Miley Cyrus and the YouTubers have danced way over.
"We grew up watching her as Hannah Montana so it's like watching your little girl do something really inappropriate," said parent Karen Hardy.
And like the bouncing booties themselves, it looks like this dance craze isn't slowing down anytime soon.
"With the youngsters, it's moving your hips and that's what they're all about," said Banks.
"I think that you can have fun with it I think that it can be a toned down version of twerking," Kushner added.
