A former Bay area middle school principal is a step closer to the start of his murder trial.
Anthony Giancola appeared in a Clearwater courtroom Monday morning. He's accused of going on a deadly crime spree last year in Lealman.
Deputies say he stabbed four people at a group home for the hearing-impaired – killing two of them. They say he later assaulted a husband and wife at a motel, and then hit five people with his car as well.
Giancola was fired in 2007 as principal of Van Buren Middle School.
He was caught buying cocaine from an undercover police officer in his office.
As for his murder trial, another hearing has been set in two weeks to determine a date.
