DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - The suburban Atlanta school bookkeeper who talked a gunman into surrendering to authorities after a standoff with police has been honored by members of her church and a U.S. congressman.

Antoinette Tuff was sitting in the front office at McNair Discovery Learning Academy Aug. 20 when a 20-year-old man carrying an assault rifle walked in and prompted a lockdown. He exchanged shots with police and no one was injured.

Congressman Hank Johnson presented Tuff with a proclamation at her home church Sunday and commended her for showing bravery under pressure.

Tuff, who has been considered a hero by many since the incident, has maintained that her faith factored into the situation ending peacefully. Since the shooting, Tuff has appeared on CNN and received a call from President Barack Obama.
