Nobody likes paying big bucks for gas, nor do most like paying increased taxes.
So imagine explaining to Pasco residents that the county wants to increase their gas tax.
"It is expensive enough the way it is," said Angela Henningfeld.
The county wants to tack on an extra nickel in gas tax, raising it from the 7 cents a gallon to 12 cents a gallon.
That's higher than Hillsborough and Pinellas, which are both at 7 cents. Polk, Manatee and Sarasota are also 12 cents.
Officials say the roads are in need of work, but the money to pay for them just isn't there.
"Our roads are going to deteriorate and when you have bad roads, property values fall, so everybody loses," said county administrator Michele Baker.
A vote on the increase will happen Sept. 10. Some drivers tell us they hope it gets the brakes.
"It is a bad time to raising price on gas," said Rick Kepps.
The tax would last 10 years and go into effect Jan. 1 if approved.
