DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Days of heavy rain caused some flooding in the metro Atlanta area. Water surrounded some homes near the south fork of Peachtree Creek in DeKalb County on Wednesday.

Not since 2009 has floodwater threatened homes along the creek side of Hunting Valley Drive, but it came within inches of rushing through the first floors of several homes.  It did swamp the back yards.

Some residents in the area are well-practiced in minimizing flood damage, but the experience was new for some.

Several inches of water poured in the basement and soaked carpets in the Walton family's home. They worked into the evening to pump out the water.

Neighbors said that they could use more attention to the storm drains from DeKalb County. They said they are also concerned about a barrier Atlanta Gas and Light put up in order to drill a pipeline under the creek. But mostly, they worried about more rain.

The good news was that the water had receded several inches as of Wednesday night.
