Proposed wireless phone surcharge would fund Internet for schools
By ANTWAN LEWIS, Fox 5 News Reporter
Think your cellphone bill is high now? It may be going up again.
The Obama administration is pushing an initiative that would add another $3 to$ 5 a year to your cellphone bill.
Officials say the tax would be used to fund high-speed Internet access in the nation's schools. The White House said the president got on board after visiting school students in North Carolina in June.
Congress is supposed to approve new taxes. But insiders said the president may go around Congress and lean directly on the FCC to impose the surcharge.
