A standoff with an armed suspect in a rural Auburndale neighborhood ended Tuesday afternoon when he surrendered, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Homes near the scene along Berkeley Road had to be evacuated.
The sheriff's office said a man inside the home was threatening to kill himself. At one point, he came out of the house with a shotgun slung over his shoulder, but did not point it at deputies.
The view from SkyFOX showed the SWAT armored vehicle in the front yard of the home. The front door was open and there was a black SUV pulled half into the garage, with what appeared to be skid marks on the driveway.
Just after 2 p.m., 19-year-old Christopher Darren Fulbright came out of the open door with his hands in the air. Officers, with guns drawn, handcuffed him and took him into custody.
Earlier today, Fulbright's father called police to report that his son had stolen his SUV, the sheriff's office said.
Fulbright was on probation for burglary and grand theft. He's charged with violation of probation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and grand theft auto.
