ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -

The feds said 48-year-old Dr. Farid Fata misdiagnosed patients with cancer to justify unnecessary treatments and gave chemotherapy to end of life patients who couldn't benefit from the treatment.

Tuesday, federal agents raided Fata's Oakland Township mansion where paperwork and personal belongings were boxed up.

The FBI also raided Fata's offices across metro Detroit. The doctor owns and operates Michigan Hematology and Oncology Centers, which has offices in Clarkston, Bloomfield Hills, Lapeer, Sterling Heights, Troy and Oak Park.

The feds said a patient who fell at one of Fata's offices later died from a head injury. At the doctor's insistence, we're told he was given chemotherapy before being transported to the emergency room for treatment.

He is also accused of submitting fraudulent claims to Medicare, raking in $35 million in a two-year period.

Fata was arrested Tuesday morning.

The U.S. Attorney's Office has setup a hotline for Dr. Fata's patients to get their questions answered. That number is 888-702-0553.
