A 20-year-old from Pasco County faces first-degree murder charges in the death of his stepfather.
It happened at a home on Mosaic Drive in Holiday, and investigators tell us 20-year-old Jason Chevere fatally shot Dale Wildermuth.
Detectives say Chevere and Wildermuth were arguing for some time before the attack, and at one point, the victim had physically assaulted Chevere by pushing and grabbing him.
During the fight, Wildermuth told him to get out of his house, according to an arrest affidavit. Chevere then apparently went into his bedroom to get a handgun, detectives say.
Chevere and his stepfather argued for a few more minutes before he shot him in the chest, according to the sheriff's office.
Wildermuth was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the shooting, Chevere apparently ran from the house, but he was arrested when he came back a short time later. Deputies say he confessed to the killing during questioning.
