PHILADELPHIA -

A FOX 29 News crew was at the 97.5-FM "The Fanatic" studios Thursday afternoon as former Phillie Darren Daulton did a phone interview with fellow radio host Mike Missanelli.

"Dutch" called in from Florida, where he's receiving treatment near his home.

The popular former Philadelphia catcher has been diagnosed with highly malignant brain tumor called a glioblastoma.

Last month, the 51-year-old underwent surgery. He's expected to receive radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

"Dutch" said he has a little bit of trouble talking, which started before the diagnosis.

Missanelli told him there has been an outpouring of love, good wishes and prayer.

"Well, thank you, Mike," Daulton said. "And thanks to everybody. The fans, they're just phenomenal right now, and everybody with 97.5 The Fanatic, you know, I'm missing this."

Daulton said he's planning to be in town for the Phillies alumni events this weekend, where the Phillies' 1993 pennant-winning team will be honored after 20 years.

"It's what I've done my whole life, and I just enjoy being with the fans. So, I'm glad to be back and be a part of this ... with the alumni," Daulton said.

Daulton was joking during the interview, and Missanelli said he sounded good.

He also talked to Missanelli about his love for Philly, calling the city "his family," and he expressed his hope for the future during the interview.

"It's Philadelphia. I mean ... it's really like my family now," Daulton said. "And going through this thing -- you know, I mean, my God, I didn't know what the hell I was doing. And, you know, this thing's going to work out. I know that, and I feel great right now. But being part of and doing what we're doing right now, I just love it, Mike. And I thank everybody that's a part of this."

If you'd like to send your well wishes to "Dutch," you can do so at this email address: dutch@975thefanatic.com.

The radio station is promoting T-shirts that are being sold to benefit the Darren Daulton Foundation. You can get information on those by clicking here.

And a new website, www.RIGHTonFIGHTon.ORG program has been started to raise awareness and funding for cancer patients in the United States.
