NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A man under arrest in connection with multiple Long Island burglaries briefly escaped police custody on Wednesday.

Suffolk County police arrested Anthony Forgione, 28, of West Babylon for multiple burglaries over the last three months.

Forgione was arrested for burglarizing a West Babylon home. Police say they connected him to numerous burglaries in West Babylon, Deer Park and West Islip from April to July.

While he was being held in the First Precinct he escaped. Police say he was located nearby a short time after the escape but did not release any other details about his capture.

Forgione faces ten burglary and one grand larceny charge. Police tacked on an escape charge after he got out of the precinct.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Thursday.

Detectives are asking anyone with information related to possible break-ins by Forgione to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Police say that all calls will be kept confidential.
