Another member of the advisory commission formed to help straighten out problems at the Lakeland Police Department has resigned.
Ana Rivera gives two reasons for throwing in the towel. She says she and her husband knew he needed a medical procedure. They just found out that he will instead need surgery soon.
She also says as president of the Puerto Rican Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and a key member in the Latin community in Polk County, she is already stretched too far.
Since it was formed a few weeks ago, six of the 15 members of the committee have resigned. Some said the group was too large. Others noted ongoing problems between the Lakeland Police Department and the State Attorney's Office.
Lakeland Mayor Gow Fields says Rivera's replacement with come from the Hispanic community and will be announce this Friday at the commission's next meeting.
