A lavish tree house in Holmes Beach must be brought up to code or torn down.
The couple who owns the tree house says they broke no laws, and they also say a former code enforcement officer who gave them the okay to build agrees.
But the current officer says the couple's tree house violates 33 city codes.
After a nine-hour hearing on the matter Tuesday night, the city issued its ruling: pay to bring it up to code or tear it down.
One of the owners told us the tree house isn't going anywhere.
"We plan on keeping the tree house and if we have to modify it to make it to be a real house with a certificate of occupancy and all that...Yeah," said Lynn Tran.
The city also ruled the couple has to pay more than $4,000 of the city's costs.
