LULA, Ga. -

Days after vandals struck a veterans' park in Lula, two men showed up unannounced and cleaned up the graffiti.

Last week, FOX 5 reported that vandals spray-painted the outer walls of Veterans Park.

Lula City Manager Dennis Bergin said he couldn't believe it when he was told that two men from Home Depot cleaned up all the vandalism to the park that holds the name of 300 veterans.

Reece Gilmer is the store manager at the Gainesville Home Depot. He says with a family full of veterans and a company that employs more than 35,000 veterans, they had to clean it up. They didn't tell anyone they were coming.

"Clearly the folks that did this don't understand the sacrifices that our military makes. That's where we get our freedom. We can't have that. We have to go clean it up," said Gilmer.

It took Gilmer and fellow employee Marshall Smith about five hours.

"The most difficult part was to get on your hands and knees and scrub, and just having to scrub over and over again because some of it would soak in," said Smith.

Authorities are still searching for the vandals. City officials said that police have several solid leads in the case. The local historical society has offered a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
