NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Eight towns along the New Jersey shore are still being affected by Superstorm Sandy in the wallet.

The shore towns responded to an Associated Press survey and reported a major drop in attendance, despite the rebuilding efforts and it’s costing them financially.

The decline in the number of beachgoers is being blamed on Sandy as some regulars booked trips elsewhere during this season of rebuilding, meaning fewer available rental units.

Manasquan says beach revenue is down almost $300,000 and Avon says it’s lost nearly $213,000 this summer.

Officials say part of the loss is due to a two-week delay in opening the beach during the week because students who staff lifeguard jobs were making up school days lost after Sandy.

Seasonal beach badge purchases were also down because about 100 rental units were destroyed or uninhabitable.
