South Jersey Celebrates The Birth Of One Of Its Own Royal Babies

Posted: Updated:
CAMDEN, N.J. -

It's a royal birth fit for a prince. Only this isn't England. It's Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey.

"He's my prince," said the new mom. It's almost as if baby Tumelo Mokgadi was destined to be royal.

He came into the world about two weeks shy of his predicted delivery date on the same day Kate and William gave birth to their baby boy.

"We had about the same date actually," said mom Nia. She was born in South Africa but spent her school years in England. She now feels an even deeper connection with the royals.

"I lived there for six years and I've always followed them. I like everything about them," said Nia from her hospital bed. The royals are also Nia and her husband Ramasotho's connection to a group of ladies from Haddonfield.

"It started out with having breakfast at my home when Kate and William got married. We all wore fancy hats and pajamas," laughed Pat Browne. "And then another lady in our group mentioned the baby. I thought what are we going to do about the baby?" said Pat.

So the ladies went on a search to find a local baby born the same day as Kate and William's royal highness. They surprised the family with a royal-like baby shower that included gifts galore and a crown for baby Tumelo.

Lisa Quanci was excited to meet Tumelo but imagines it's a lot different than England's royal baby.

"Oh I'm going to guess it's a little different. I don't think we'd get to go in and see him. I"I'm doubting we'd be bedside with Kate," laughed Lisa.

Nia is thankful for the royal baby shower and said she'll accept the title of local royalty.

"In our house I'm the queen, my husband is the king and my daughter's the princess already. So having my son born on a day when some other real royal baby is born works out."
