Get ready for sticker shock next time you fill up. Gas prices just jumped 12 cents a gallon over the weekend. They are now 23 cents more a gallon than last year at this time.
"It's just too much," Letitia Mosley told FOX 13 at the Hess Mart on Fletcher Ave. "It's like we're working for gas, instead of working to pay our bills."
It's not like drivers have much of a choice. They have to pay the new higher prices, like it or not.
"What can you do?" Gabriel Gutierrez said as he filled up. "You got to go to work."
On average, a gallon of regular will now cost you $3.51. Across Florida, the average price is higher. It's $3.64. Nationally, it climbs to about $3.67.
Experts say the pain at the pump is going to get worse before it gets better. They say we will continue to see the cost of gas rise until September.
A number of factors are contributing to the jump. Experts say demand is high and supplies are limited, there is unrest in the Middle East, and we are heading into the worst part of the storm season.
