Florida's Department of Transportation is planting hundreds of new palm trees along Interstate 4 at the Martin Luther King exit near the Florida State Fairgrounds. This caught the eye of FOX 13 viewer Barbara Allen who contacted Doug Smith to complain.
"Florida is known for palm trees, but I don't see the need for this many. The money could have gone somewhere better," says Allen.
FDOT told FOX 13 the number of trees in the area is 300. Here's a breakdown:
The price tag is $365,324.26. FDOT says the Governor wanted the agency to create more bold landscaping to a make a favorable first and lasting impressions on visitors to help attract and grow business, and palm trees were the best choice.
We asked in a text poll if you thought the expense was worth it, or a waste.
88% said "waste."
12% said "worth it."
