DULUTH, Ga. -

The investigation continues in a wrong-way police pursuit that ended with the death of a fleeing suspect and the injury of an innocent motorist.

Duluth police have released video of the chase, which took place last Saturday.  It appears to show the stolen car suspect, Jeremy Kelly, driving at more than 100 miles an hour down the wrong side of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Eventually, he will slam head on into an SUV driven by a Duluth woman.

The collision killed Kelly and forced police to make a daring rescue of the injured woman from her SUV.

The incident began as a traffic stop, but the officer was alerted that the Nissan Maxima was stolen, prompting the chase.

The chase reached dangerous speeds as the suspect drove the wrong way through busy intersections.

"It's exceedingly dangerous to the public. We have to make every effort to get this person stopped so they won't make it worse," said Major Don Woodruff of the Duluth Police Department.

After the head-on collision, Duluth officers rushed to remove 49-year-old Dawn Smith threw a window. They also rescued her small dog who also survived the impact – its teeth were buried in the officer's hand has he carried it to safety.

Duluth officers actually crawled inside Smith's burning SUV.

"So the officers actually went inside the vehicle putting themselves at great risk to extricate her and get her out so she would be safe," said Woodruff.

Police are trying to determine if there were any reasons why Kelly was running other than the fact that the car was reported stolen.

Smith remains in the hospital with a broken leg.
