Philadelphia Fire Department Gets FEMA Grant

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, D.C. -

It was a big day for the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Congressman Chaka Fattah of Pennsylvania announced that the Philadelphia Fire department will receive two federal grants, funded by the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, totaling 18.4 million dollars.

The bulk of the grant money will go to help hire more front line firefighters to help with round the clock coverage.

The rest will help emergency medical teams more efficiently serve the public, and prevent layoffs.

Congressman Fattah said, "Philadelphia has some of the finest firefighters in the nation and they put their lives on the line everyday to protect our neighborhoods. They must have what they need to carry out their duties and ensure the protection of our residents. These grants will do that by making sure there are enough firefighters and EMS personnel who are fully trained and have the right equipment to respond when emergencies occur."
