The Coast Guard is known for helping people stranded at sea, but a rescue on the Hillsborough River was much more unusual.
Someone spotted a puppy swimming alone in the river. He was doggie-paddling near the Laurel Street Bridge.
The person called 911 and the coast guard happened to be nearby.
By the time they arrived, the puppy climbed into a drain pipe.
The Coast Guard crew was able to pull the dog to safety.
The person who spotted him is working with animal services to adopt him, unless they can find the owner.
