Police looking for vehicle that caused Courtney Campbell mess

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The westbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell Causeway were closed for several hours Monday morning because of a hit-and-run accident.

According to Tampa police, the victim was headed westbound in a Honda Civic when she crashed into the barrier wall. The driver's side of her car was pinned against the wall, forcing the woman to climb out the window.

But when she did, she was hit by a passing SUV. Police say the SUV ran over her leg and kept going.  Police say 41-year-old Chantelle Barbose was hospitalized in critical condition.

The resulting investigation and cleanup closed several of the travel lanes, but everything was open again by 9:45 a.m.

Investigators are still looking for the other vehicle involved. Police described it only as a black SUV, and said its driver may not have been aware that he or she hit a person.
