Flyers Sign Former Goalie Emery To Free-Agent Deal

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The Flyers announced Friday that they are bringing back former goalie Ray Emery for a second stint after signing him to a free-agent contract.

General Manager Paul Holmgren confirmed the signing Friday on the team's website.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 196-pound goaltender signed with the Flyers in 2009, appearing in 29 games. He was going 16-11-1 with a 2.64 GAA and a .905 save percentage. But in March 2010, he was diagnosed with avascular necrosis in his right hip, and one month later he underwent surgery to repair the condition.

Emery returned to the NHL after a year of recovery and rehabilitation, signing with Anaheim Ducks. He went 7-2-0 in 10 appearances with the Mighty Ducks and was nominated for a league award for his "perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication."

And last season Emery pick up a Stanley Cup in his second season with the Chicago Blackhawks. He went 17-1-0 in 21 regular-season appearances last year, posting a 1.94 GAA and a .922 save percentage.

The Flyers also announced Friday that they have signed free-agent goalie Yann Danis, a 32-year-old from the Edmonton Oilers, to a one-year, two-way contract.

The moves continue a flurry of activity for the Flyers, who have already signed free-agent center Vincent Lecavalier and re-signed captain Claude Giroux to a new eight-year deal.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
