Some Tampa Bay area families will never forget this Independence Day. They picked our most patriotic day to take the oath of citizenship and officially become Americans.
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn gave the official certificates of citizenship to 66 people from 27 countries.
"Never take for granted what it means to be a citizen in this community," said Mayor Buckhorn. "I could not think of a better day and a better time to do what you have done today."
The Moita family came from Kenya and just completed a 17-year journey. They look forward to raising three children is America and committing to public service.
"This country has given a lot to us, and we want to get that opportunity to be able to give back to the country, which is the greatest land in the world," said Joenjogu Muita.
The naturalization ceremony Thursday morning at the Tampa Bay History Center was one of more than a hundred this week across the nation.
