FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -

A State of Emergency is declared in the town of Flowery Branch, about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta and just north of Buford. It's not only due to the heavy amount of rain that's already fallen, but more rain that's still on the way.

The city closed Cantrell Street where the road crosses Flowery Branch Creek. Crews are working on setting up a temporary bridge for Spring Street – which is deteriorating. Officials say there have been no other structural problems reported as of 5 a.m. Thursday.

The State of Emergency is expected to stay in effect until further notice.

The weather problems started Wednesday afternoon when heavy rains flooded parts of Cobb County. On Church Street in Smyrna, a downed tree took out several power poles and left most of a neighborhood without electricity.

Raging waters at Sope Creek brought County Commissioner Bob Ott out to check spots that are known to flood during severe weather. People living nearby say they're concerned about more flooding as the rain pours in Thursday.

In Coweta County, just walking around proved tough in some areas where standing water covered streets. Driving proved just as difficult, too.

Rain caused troubles for traffic, with the commute slowing to a crawl on I-285 in Cobb County Wednesday night. Local authorities are urging drivers to take it slow on the roads Thursday morning.
