Thirty plus passengers aboard the Caladesi Ferry are thankful to be back on dry land.
"We were out there an hour and a half," one passenger said.
Their vessel ran aground in shallow water during the heavy storm. Passengers said while they were stuck, lightning hit a pole close to their location off Honeymoon Island. Fortunately, though, despite the nasty weather, everyone was just fine. The boat was eventually towed out by FWC.
Stormy weather also affected drivers in Clearwater. Highland Avenue South looked more like a river as cars did their best to make it through.
And further south in Sarasota, two people are counting their blessings after nearly getting hit by lightning. It happened outside the YMCA on Potter Park drive. Officials say a tree was struck by a bolt and the two people standing next to it felt a jolt. They only received minor injuries and went to the hospital only as a precaution.
Just a couple of days ago, three people were hospitalized in Bradenton when lightning struck near them.
So far this year, Florida leads the nation in lightning-related deaths with three.
