Barnesville hit-and-run driver kills aspiring nurse

BARNESVILLE, Ga. -

Georgia State Patrol is on the lookout for a white Saturn Vue sport-utility vehicle believed to be connected to a hit-and-run crash that killed a 20-year-old woman.

Authorities say Alexandria Noel Desir, of Locust Grove, westbound along Rose Avenue in Barnesville just before midnight Saturday, when a vehicle struck her from behind.

The vehicle fled the scene.  

A turn signal assembly led investigators to issue a lookout for a Saturn Vue SUV between model years 2002 and 2005. The vehicle should have damage to the right front corner of the vehicle.  The right corner light should be missing.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or the driver is asked to call either the Georgia State Patrol at 770-254-7201 or the Barnesville Police Department.

Family members said that Desir was walking to start her shift at the Huddle House, where she waited tables on the weekend. The Gordon State College student hoped to be a nurse one day.

Tamara Boatwright, a spokesperson for the school, issued a statement saying, "The Gordon State College family extends its deepest sympathies to her family and friends. We are all heartbroken at the tragic loss of this young woman's life."

Barnesville is 60 miles south of Atlanta.
