They say a dog is a man's best friend, and that's even true for a police officer.
The newest member of the Tampa Police Department is getting acquainted with his new colleagues.
It's a 10-week-old bloodhound named Blu. The pup will be working alongside Officer Dave Savage.
"It's a change for me," said Savage, who has never worked in the K9 unit but owns six dogs. "Now I have someone to take care of, someone to take care of me, someone that's going to take care of the public."
Blu has already started some environmental training. The department has been taking him around to different environment and letting him experience different noises.
Blu could eventually reach 100 pounds, Savage said. Tampa police has started a blog for Blu. You can follow his progress at http://tpdpolicedogwithablog.blogspot.com/.
