Storms spawn funnel clouds; rain continues Monday

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Storms in the Tampa Bay area Sunday brought plenty of rain and a couple of funnel clouds.

One funnel was spotted near Land O'Lakes, and another was reported in Wesley Chapel.

The Wesley Chapel funnel dropped out of the clouds about 5:30 on State Road 56 about 1/2 mile from I-75.

Because it never reached the ground, it never had the chance to do any damage.

More cells were expected to dump rainfall on the area Monday morning, though at least in the early morning hours, the heaviest rainfall was to the southeast.

Manatee County officials said three people were taken to the hospital out of precaution because of a close lightning strike.

The rain is expected to last for the next couple of days.
