Pasco closes part of shelter after dogs diagnosed with parvovirus
LAND O' LAKES (FOX 13) -
Pasco County Animal Services has temporarily closed its dog adoption area to the general public after four dogs were found to have parvovirus.
The virus is extremely contagious, and can cause vomiting, diarrhea and fever in infected dogs.
Dogs are screened and vaccinated for the virus when they come into the shelter. When the four dogs tested positive, shelter managers decided to close the dog area to the public as a precaution while they clean and disinfect it.
The shelter is at 19640 Dogpatch Lane in Land O' Lakes. The adoption area for cats remains open.
