Treatment offers help for thinning hair

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Like 30 million women across the U.S. Angela Hildebrand's hair was thinning. Five years, ago the problem got worse.

"I had a pregnancy, then my hair really started to fall out," she said.

Angela shared pictures of her thinning hair. She said she wore a cap when on the boat or after swimming to hide her hair loss. Prescriptions and over the counter products didn't work.

"I feel like, you name it, I tried it."

Angela's job brought her here to the Academie Alliance in Dermatology Clinic in Tampa. That's where she learned about an exclusive treatment brand new to the U.S. called Haarklinikin DIP. Within six months of using it, Angela saw results.

"I couldn't believe it. I felt like I was a Chia pet. I mean, it really took off in this area - it just really filled in the gaps in my hair," she said.

Haarklinikken products have their "roots" in Denmark. Twenty years ago, Lars Skjoth founded the company creating compounds that fertilize hair follicles.

Lars Skjoth says, "The hair is like a dead tissue, it's like a nail. So what is introduced into the hair follicle is generating more cells, so the speed of growth, the quality of the hair the thickness, diameter of the hair increases."

Patients get a personalized blend formulated from 100 possible ingredients.

"The main ingredients we are using are coming from plant elements and some are some of them are coming from milk serums," he says.

We asked what specifically is in the extract formula, how it works, and if it's been tested. We were told research exists and that it is safe, but we were not allowed to see it for proprietary reasons. He says the treatment is considered a cosmetic and not a drug.

Using a syringe, the golden fluid is placed on the scalp. Cecelia Schroder is just beginning her treatments.

"It is a process that you have to do every night, but it's well worth it," she says.

That process also includes special shampoos and conditioners, but results won't come overnight. Cecelia is willing to wait.

"I'm looking forward to the next three months, nine months. I'm very excited!"

Angela's been using the product daily for 18 months.

"A colleauge said, 'Oh my gosh Ang, I thought you had a wig on.' It really made me feel good about myself!"

She's happy with the progress. Giving her the confidence that can come with a full head of hair.

Factoring in the appointment, shampoo, conditioner and extract, the treatment costs about $60 per month.
