Shelter seeks to place 999 animals in 90 days

CLEARWATER (FOX 13) -

The Humane Society of Pinellas County has set a lofty goal for the summer: they're hoping to find homes for 999 animals in 90 days, as part of a national contest. If they reach their goal, hundreds of animals get new, loving homes, plus the local shelter could win a $100,000 grant.

This is all part of the "Pick Me" project, 100K Challenge. It started at the beginning of June, and as of Tuesday, they've adopted out 269 animals -- roughly one-third of their goal for the summer.

There are puppies and dogs, kittens and cats, even a pair of bonded bunny rabbits, which we're told have to be adopted as a pair.
