Powerball Lottery Winner Comes Forward

PHILADELPHIA -

A winning Powerball ticket, worth more than $131.5 million, was sold at a beer distributor on Broad and Federal streets. After almost a month, Patricia Chandler, a resident of Upper Darby, has come forward to claim the prize.

She bought the Powerball ticket at Federal Beer on 1445 South Broad Street. She's chosen to receive the lump sum payment of $77 million. The single winning ticket was sold in South Philly on June 22nd. And the owner of the store didn't know it until FOX 29 broke the news to the him.

At Federal Beer in South Philly. O'Connell interviewed store owner Gary Patel. Gary had this to say, "You just told me I sold the winning ticket... I feel very excited about this."

"Wow! Oh boy I wouldn't have to work no more in life," exclaimed a customer.

Point Breeze was buzzing that Sunday night.

"You know what I'd do with a $131 million! 131 million dollars right now!" shouted another customer in excitement.

As news spread of a winning Powerball ticket printed on this machine, everyone was asking who it could be.

"Did you get your ticket right here?", asked O'Connell.

'Yes I did..." answered another customer.

"You better check it because there's 131 million dollar ticket."

"For real?"

Gary Patel knew something was up when lottery officials were at his door at 7 a.m. But they didn't tell him why.

"I said, 'Why on a Sunday. You don't work Sundays.' 'We just doing random check up...' I said, 'OK.'"

According to Tyrece McDaniel, another customer, "I played the lottery yesterday, so I came down here to see if I won."

"Did you bring your ticket down?" asked FOX's Chris O'Connell.

"I did."

"Did you check it?"

"I did. Unfortunately I didn't win though."

"If you did, you wouldn't be standing here with me."

"No. I would be in [the store] signing papers because I would have bought the building," he replied.

So what does the owner get for selling the $131 million ticket? He says he didn't even know. He was happy to hear when FOX 29 told him. He'll get $100,000.

Customers have been coming in all day to check their tickets.

The winning numbers are 13-19-23-33-57 with the PowerBall number of 28.

Chandler, the winner, presented the Powerball ticket for validation at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County. Lottery officials confirmed it was the jackpot-winning ticket.
