NJ Transit train hits truck

Posted: Updated:

An NJ Transit train hit a truck near the Plauderville station in Garfield, New Jersey, early Friday afternoon.

The truck apparently got stuck on the tracks at around noon. The driver was able to get out before the impact.

Medics brought the train engineer and a passenger to Hackensack University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, the AP reported.

The cab and the cargo carrier separated in the incident.  Both ended up on their sides.

NorthJersey.com reported that the truck was carrying plastic pellets and crews were dealing with a fuel leak from the truck.

"Preliminary information indicates that the gates were down and functioning as intended prior to the train's arrival at the crossing," NJ Transit said in a statement.

The Bergen County Line rail service was restored Friday night at about 9 p.m.
