Facebook, which owns Instagram, is expected to announce this week a new video option for the popular photo app. Most likely the feature will be for shortened video clips kind of what you see on Vine, the popular video app.
That could spell big trouble for Vine, says Christina Warren, a senior tech analyst at Mashable, an online tech magazine.
One of the things that makes Instagram popular is the filter feature, like the Rise filter I used for this picture of my dog Oslo to bring out the color more.
Imagine using the app for stop-motion videos that the really creative Vine users post. The various filter settings would take it to another level.
Speaking of filters, Vine recently started filtering out pornographic content. Vine took some heat when it was first launched because a naughty few were uploading, well, you can figure out the rest.
Facebook restricts porn as well, so it's likely an Instagram video option would do that same. We'll see.
We asked Facebook for an overall comment about the new video, a spokesperson responded: "We do not comment on rumors or speculation."
One dedicated Instagram user said she the rumors and speculation are true. Her friend even took our picture using Instagram.
As for the video option, stay tuned.
