Put four cute singers on TV, and you get a hit show on Nickelodeon. Bring that same popular boy band to the Mall of America, and what do you get? Thousands of screaming teenage fans, of course.
They stood in line for hours to meet their musical heroes -- Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logan Henderson and Carlos Pena Jr. All four are stars in the television series created by Scott Fellows which chronicles the Hollywood hopes of four hockey players from Minnesota who become part of the boy band Big Time Rush.
The boys in the band certainly seemed to have the power to whip up the crowd into a frenzy with little more than a smile, but none are actually from the land of 10,000 lakes. In a way, the show is kind of a cross between "Miracle" and "The Monkeys."
"Our creator, Scott Fellow, always loved 'The Monkeys' and just old-school shows," Henderson explained. "So, he modeled the show after 'The Monkeys' … We have paid some homage to them by doing certain shots -- like Carlos in a bathtub and all of us pushing him in the lobby, a very classic Monkeys' intro."
Contest winners got to meet the boys backstage, and many were left speechless -- or at least struggling to speak through their emotions.
"I love them so much and I've seen them so many times," said Margie Ainsworth. "Kendall is like my love."
The show's fourth just started last month, and there have been rumors that this year may be the last -- but the boys say if fans want more, they'll keep going.
