There's been more sinkhole and possible sinkhole activity in our area recently. One of that's effecting a lot of people is a sinkhole that opened up right under 138th Avenue at Bruce B. Downs Blvd. in north Tampa.
It's a rather large hole in the pavement and Hillsborough deputies say one driver just barely missed getting stuck in it. They say his car was on top of the pavement as the hole began opening, but the driver hit the gas and got out of it.
Maintenance crews say the ground gave way over a sewer pipe.
A second apparent sinkhole also opened up at a house in Plant City. Sinkhole repair specialists have been out at the home where the sinkhole formed over the weekend.
They are trying to stabilize the house on Country Hills Court N. Crews ripped up the concrete porch in the backyard then spent the day pushing what they call underpinnings through the soil that the house will sit on.
The family is currently staying at a hotel.
"I just want to know if it's up underneath the house or not," Homeowner Tom Manus said. "Because we do have something going on up around the garage too. So right now they are concerned about this area here. So we'll see."
Over the weekend, a Bob Evans in Seffner shut down because of possible sinkhole activity. Workers found large cracks both inside and outside the building Sunday morning.
We're told the restaurant will remain shut down while engineers inspect and repair the building.
