Eager shoppers got their first preview of items that could be theirs, if the price is right! Pier management and merchants will auction off surplus equipment on Tuesday, June 11 at 10 a.m. at The Pier. If you missed Monday's preview, you can still get a quick look from 8 - 10 a.m. Tuesday, before the auction gets underway.
There's everything from store mannequins, a Slush Puppy machine, to a 300-lb steel anchor! There are many glass items in the Crystal Mirage store, including both etched front doors. Upstairs in the Columbia Restaurant and at Cha Cha Coconuts, the bars, the furniture, heavy-duty stainless steel fixtures and kitchen equipment are all up for grabs.
"This auction primarily deals with commercial items, and not items of interest to memorabilia collectors or those looking for souvenirs from the Pier," said Dave Metz, director of the Downtown Enterprise Facilities Department.
There are a few gift-shop-type items, but mostly the auction will be clearing-out the remaining furniture, restaurant equipment, store fixtures, display cases and other surplus inventory. "This all has to happen before we can close The Pier," said Metz.
Bay Area Auction Services, Inc. will conduct the auction. Complete rules and an inventory of items is available online at www.bayareaauctionservices.com.
Items will be sold "as is, where is," and can be removed after purchase. Those needing to return to remove larger items may do so before Thursday, June 13 by 4 p.m.
