Brothers, driver escape school bus accident without injury

Posted: Updated:

A school bus carrying two kids flipped onto its roof Friday morning at Nebraska and Palm in Ybor City.

Police say no one was injured despite significant damage to the bus and the Acura that hit the bus.

The bus driver and two boys, who are brothers, were pulled from the bus and walked away. It happened right near the historic Centro Asturiano de Tampa.

Derek Ware said he was there to help get the bus driver out.

"It's a blessing. It's a miracle," he said. "All you could smell was like the gas when you walked in. It flipped over, so that's all I smelled. They saved the kids, and we were just looking up at the seats and the seatbelts trying to make sure no one was still in there."

Police say the other vehicle was headed north on Nebraska and the bus east on Palm when the vehicle ran a red light, slamming into the front of the bus.

Traffic was shut down in the area for a couple of hours.
