St. Petersburg considering red light camera changes
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -
They probably won't disappear, but St. Petersburg may start to put the brakes on red light cameras.
City council members are asking Mayor Bill Foster to give drivers a few more tenths of a second to stop on red. Roughly 45 percent of all red light tickets are written for drivers who ran red lights by a half second or less.
But the move would come at a cost. The city would lose more than $700,000 if it eliminated some tickets by extending yellow lights a fraction of a second.
