Woman seeks owner of WWII bracelet

Posted: Updated:

A local woman is searching for a hero after she found a special bracelet belonging to someone she believes enlisted in World War II.

Slone Griner is trying to make sense of the numbers and the name, William Albright, inscribed on a sterling silver bracelet she found in the bushes at John Howell Park in Atlanta while walking her dog two months ago.

"Just saw something in one of the bushes off the path and pulled it out and at first I thought it was a medical bracelet," Griner said.

After taking a friend's suggestion and searching the numbers on Google, Griner found military records apparently connecting those numbers --enlistment numbers -- to the name William Albright of Utica, N.Y., a private in World War II.

"It's probably somebody's grandfather and, I hope they're missing it as hard as I'm trying to find them," said Griner.

Griner said that she's tried everything to find the rightful owners, but thus far has been unsuccessful.

"Literally when I found it, something told me this is important," said Griner.

She said that she's a big believer in fate and karma and couldn't help but note that the day FOX 5 interviewed her was the 69th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy in World War II.

"I have tried very, very hard to find you for about two months now and I hope that this finds you," Griner said.

Anyone with information on the bracelet's owner is urged to contact George Franco via email or Facebook.
