SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Our friend and former co-worker John Noel has died after a two-year battle against brain cancer.

Noel's award-winning television career spanned more than three decades. He started in St. Louis and then worked here in Detroit before spending 15 years at WNBC in New York City, his hometown.

Noel was highly regarded as a reporter of integrity and courage.

Even after his cancer diagnosis, Noel continued to work, covering the news by day and undergoing treatment at night until two months ago when he became too weak.

Noel is survived by his parents, his brother and sister and his daughter, Jessina.

John Noel was 62.
