Lautenberg Eulogized By Dignitaries And Friends

Posted: Updated:

Dignitaries from around the country gathered inside a synagogue in New York City today.

They were there to remember New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg.

Among the mourners, members of the Senate, where Lautenberg served for almost 30 years, Vice President Joe Biden, as well as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

One of the most heart-felt eulogies came from his colleague in the Senate from New Jersey, Bob Menendez.

"Frank Lautenberg was a man for his time, one of the greatest generation, the last in the Senate to have served in World War Two. His story was an American story, but in his heart and for his lifetime, he was a man from New Jersey, a kid from Paterson."

The service wasn't all sad.

Lautenberg's son reflected on his father's sense of humor.

According to Josh Lautenberg, "If my father was here he would really love this part...I tell ya he would stand up here and he'd say wow look at all of these people… you couldn't get the Israeli Prime Minister or the pope? Well that's ok."

Senator Lautenberg's body will lie in repose in the US Capitol tomorrow.

On Friday, the last world war two veteran to serve in the senate will be buried at arlington national cemetery, outside washington, dc.
