The Tampa Bay area is looking at a hit of storms, flooding and even a possible tornado over the few days – with a tropical disturbance moving northeast in the Gulf of Mexico.
As of Wednesday morning, Invest 91L sat in the eastern part of the Gulf – with all models bringing it straight for the Tampa Bay area.
The system is packing heavy rain and winds, and FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg said it could even bring the chance for an isolated tornado.
"As that works its way into tonight and tomorrow, we could expect some flooding," he said.
The National Hurricane Center is sending a plane to investigate the disturbance Wednesday afternoon.
The main concern is likely flooding. Flood watches are in effect for several Bay area counties. City officials in Tarpon Springs said they are making sandbags available for residents.
It's likely the system will be done dumping heavy weather on the area by Friday.
